Can I Pay for Services Upfront and Get Reimbursed?

You see something you need, you pay for it, and later you get the money back. Sounds simple, right? Not always.

When it comes to your NDIS plan, whether you can pay upfront and get reimbursed depends on how your funding is managed. If you self-manage, you can pay first and then claim the cost. But if your plan is NDIA-managed, providers must invoice the system directly—no out-of-pocket payments. Plan-managed participants can usually claim reimbursement, but it’s best to check with your plan manager first.

The key? Know your funding type and always keep records. Paying upfront without checking could leave you out of pocket.
